The Complexion Conversation - Skincare Q&A

We sat down with the Head of endota Wellness College, Helen Robb-Lacey to present her with some frequently asked questions and get her professional advice on common skincare concerns such as oily or excessively dry skin, the first signs of aging and the best cutting-edge skincare formulations.

Q: My skin is susceptible to dryness which makes my complexion look tired. What would you recommend?

A: Dry skin is a tell-tale sign of dehydration, so it is very important to nourish your skin and whole body from the inside and outside. I always recommend drinking plenty of water, incorporating good oils into your diet and enjoying hydrating facials and facial masks regularly. My personal favourites are the endota New Age™ Instant Revival Power Mask and Power Serum Sheet Mask.

In terms of effective treatments, Hydro-microdermabrasion is a result-driven facial that will replenish, plump and rejuvenate your skin and go one step further than traditional microdermabrasion. What many clients love about hydro-microdermabrasion is the triple effect: the diamond tip resurfaces the skin with deep exfoliation; the vacuum suction stimulates blood flow to promote cell renewal and collagen production and a customised solution is infused to treat specific skin conditions while keeping the skin feeling refreshed, soothed and hydrated.

Q: Of all the latest advances in skincare, which do you consider the best?

A: I love the fact that skincare is becoming less anti-aging and more pro-glow! It is not about eradicating lines and wrinkles but nurturing and hydrating our skin so that we maintain a glowing complexion at any age. I recommend advanced facial treatments such as New Age™ Light Therapy which use highly active ingredients such as peptides, as well as products that are clinically tested such as the endota New Age™ Peptide Firming Moisturiser which is clinically tested to increase skin firmness by 43% after 12 weeks*.

Q: Does massage help the look of our skin?

A: It certainly does. Massages are a wonderful way to boost circulation, eliminate toxins from the body and improve skin tone. Our clients will confirm that a massage makes them feel less stressed and tense, while experts agree that regular massages support your health and wellbeing. For those who want to enjoy the full benefits of a regular detox and rejuvenation, our Detox spa package is the perfect treatment.

"In Australia we all suffer from pigmentation, dehydration and environmental factors that lead to ageing. It’s so important to nurture our skin and allow ourselves to age consciously."

- Helen Robb-Lacey

Q: Even though I have always taken good care of my skin, my face is starting to show its age? Should I be looking at serums?

A: Absolutely! Serums go that little bit further by working deep into the skin and feeding the upcoming cells. One of my go-to serums is the endota New Age™ Peptide 8 Hyaluronic Serum which has shown amazing results – it has been clinically tested to improve wrinkle depth and fine lines by 36% in 12 weeks*. I recommend it to anyone who has entered that age of fine lines and decreased skin elasticity because it does a great job of relaxing wrinkles, hydrating and protecting the skin. The secret is a peptide-infused formula containing antioxidant-rich botanical stem cells to strengthen the skin and boost collagen. The collagen peptide encapsulation technology helps support skin’s elasticity, suppleness, and firmness, while a humectant-rich base delivers lasting hydration. A pure, potent serum can make a lot of difference but always consult with a professional to find the right formulation for your skin.

Q: I suffer from excessively oily skin and many of the treatments I use just seem to exacerbate the problem.

A: Using a harsh cleanser on oily skin can create a vicious cycle. Unfortunately, some products can strip the skins natural oils completely which actually causes the body to produce more sebum/oil flow to protect the skin. A good cleanser that is ph balanced won't strip oils away while gently cleansing the skin. The endota New Age™ AHA Renewal Cleansing Gel is a great choice.

Q: How early should I introduce my daughter to a skincare regime?

A: It is always a good time to teach our children about making healthy choices, taking care of their bodies and appreciating their natural beauty. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind: In our teens, our hormones often dictate our skin conditions, also we are the stage when we are starting to experiment with products and make-up. Without proper guidance and care, teens can end up disturbing their acid mantle and creating unnecessary problems. Beginning with certified natural or organic skincare, such as our endota Organics™ range, is recommended in the early teens.

Q: How does an ‘active facial’ differ from a normal facial?

A: A normal facial is designed to relax you, maintain the condition of your skin and guide your ongoing at-home skincare. On the other hand, an active facial most commonly includes exfoliation, peeling, plumping and feeding the skin using superior ingredients and technology to deliver results. I like to discuss both options with clients and then select the best treatment depending on their goals.
For example, a great active facial at endota spa is the Intense New Age facial. This 4-in-1 treatment combines the New Age Clinical Anti-Aging Peel along with Hydro-microdermabrasion to thoroughly remove all surface debris, preparing the skin for a LED treatment that activates cell renewal and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to bring the bounce back to the skin. The final touch is a Power Serum Sheet Mask that leaves the skin looking and feeling renewed and glowing.
This is a personal favourite of mine and is suitable for all skin types and any client who wants to walk out of our relaxing spa with sensational skin.

Q: What's the most effective way to treat dark spots?

A: Dark spots can be caused by either hormones or age/sun damage. The use of brightening products and/or LED treatments can greatly assist in minimizing the appearance. The endota New Age™ Potent Brightening Serum is a great choice as it is clinically tested to perform 3 times better than the average pigment correction serum.
